Jewish Studies and Hebrew
Scopus has a thriving Jewish life and culture, and a custom built Jewish Studies curriculum which was developed
by us in conjunction with the Melton Institute at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Our academic program, taught in English, is modern and engaging, giving students ownership of the texts. The
result is students who love their Jewish studies, often nominating JS as their favourite subject.
An extensive informal Jewish education program, Zionist camps and activities and our hardworking Sherut Leumi
girls from Israel, all provide experiential learning and enhance the celebration of chagim (festivals) and Israel.
Come visit us on Yom Haatzmaut or Purim and youll see what we mean!
Scopus students become proud and knowledgeable young Jews with strong Jewish identity and an appreciation of their
rich heritage.
Hebrew is a part of our curriculum from kindergarten. We use the well respected Aleh, Tal Am and Neta programs to
give students a solid grounding in the language, and we offer Melbourne's only bilingual program for years 7 and 8.
Our focus on Hebrew means many of our students study and excel in Hebrew, both at VCE and tertiary level.
