LOTE education is vital for our students - it develops the mind, makes them linguistically and culturally aware,
and supports the MYP value of being a global citizen.
At Scopus, Hebrew is taught informally from Kindergarten and formally from Prep. It is a compulsory subject to
Year 10 (inclusive) and optional to VCE or tertiary level.
In addition to Hebrew all Year 8 students must study a LOTE, choosing from French, Yiddish and Japanese. Students
can continue their language studies to VCE.
We are committed to teaching our students language, and to helping them understand the wonderful cultural diversity
of this world. Each language course incorporates cultural aspects into the curriculum through excursions, camps,
webquests, project work and interaction with speakers of the target language.
