Sport and Physical Education
Sport and Physical Education are an integral part of the program at Mount Scopus College - not just for the obvious
health benefits of exercise, but for what students gain by participating.
Sport at Scopus is designed to help students develop values such as teamwork and cooperation, perseverance,
tolerance and respect. Importantly, they learn resilience through their sporting ups and downs, and how to be
gracious and respectful in victory and in defeat. In addition, there is the satisfaction and sense of achievement
that a win on the sporting field provides.
The Scopus Secondary sport program is extensive, with boys' and girls' sports teams for football, basketball,
cricket, soccer, volleyball, hockey, golf, tennis and more, plus athletics, skiing, bowling and cross-country
running.
We employ professional coaches and run regular training sessions to prepare students for competition in the
Eastern Independent Schools network, the Jewish Schools Sporting Association, and State or National competitions.
Scopus students and teams have performed very well in competition, winning 33 pennants in the 2006 EISM season.
Each campus has sporting facilities, and the Gandel campus has four playing ovals, athletics track, tennis courts,
gymnasium and swimming pool.
