Gan Gani Educational Toddler Program

Gan Gani is an innovative program for toddlers who are due to enter Lower Kindergarten the following year. This weekly program brings parents/grandparents and children together in a friendly and nurturing Jewish environment.

Gan Gani is a program created and run by early childhood educators. It incorporates fun and educationally sound activities to enhance the development of each child.

Activities include:

  • Music, rhythm and rhyme, singing and percussion
  • Stories and listening activities
  • Body awareness, movement and finger play
  • Drama, puppetry and more

Every Gan Gani session, irrespective of the what day you attend, will incorporate Kabbalat Shabbat when candle lighting, Kiddush, and of course tasting Challah are the weekly highlight. Chagim are introduced and experienced through songs, stories and games.

Where, when and how much?

Gan Gani is held at Mount Scopus Memorial College at the Szalmuk Family Early Learning Centre at the Gandel Besen House (GBH) campus in St Kilda and at the Fink Karp Ivany Early (FKI) Learning Centre campus in Caulfield South during School term. Sessions run for around an hour and are generally offered in the morning Tuesday to Friday at GBH and Thursday and Friday at FKI. You attend one session per week in your session time for the entire term. Session times are detailed when registering for term.

The cost generally varies between $80 to $100 per child, depending on the length of the term.

Who can attend?

Gan Gani is open to children who are aged at least two years old and who will be attending Lower Kindergarten the following year, to attend with a parent, carer or grandparent.
In Terms 3 and 4 preference will be given to children who will be attending the Mount Scopus College kindergarten at that campus the following year.

What will my child gain?

The program focuses on memory and concentration, early numeracy, language development, social experiences, and gross and fine motor skill development.
Repetition ensures that children enjoy and learn from the program. Socializing opportunities benefit both children and parents and help create ongoing friendships prior to the start of Kinder.

What will parents gain?

As part of our parent education program throughout the year aimed to support good parenting, we offer informative lectures and workshops by guest speakers on a variety of topics. Some topics in recent years have included healthy eating habits, toilet training, transitioning to kinder and speech and language development.
