Choosing a school is a very important decision. The instituion you select will be your partner in your child's education, working with you to guide them through many crucial stages of development.
As the Principal of Mount Scopus College, I'd like to tell you a bit about Scopus, what we stand for and what we aim to achieve. I hope this information will help you as you consider schools for you child.
Mount Scopus Memorial College is a co-educational, inclusive Orthodox and Zionist Jewish day school. The prime objective of the College is to provide dynamic, rigorous and values-based Jewish and general education. We focus on the full and balanced development of each child in an environment that is supportive of their aspirations and potential. We believe that education is a pleasurable and enriching experience - and that all students are deserving of success.
If I could sum up a very broad offering in just a few words, I would say that a Scopus education is a about three things:
- Fostering the pursuit of excellence - encouraging every student to maximise their achievements, in academic and other spheres.
- Developing the whole person - providing facilities and opportunities, beyond the classroom and beyond the curriculum, to enhance students' overall development.
- Offering meaningful and enjoyable Jewish learning and Jewish experiences - embedding in our students an appreciation and understanding of their heritage and their place in the community.
Research has consistently shown the value of a Jewish day school education in ensuring that children grow up to be proud and committed Jews, with the skills to succeed in an increasingly complex world. It is probably the most important investment you will ever make!
Mount Scopus has been acknowledged as one of the world's leading Jewish day schools since we opened our doors in 1949, and continues to be a school of innovation and excellence. We have developed our own unique Jewish studies curriculum, and recently formed a relationship with the International Baccalaureate Organisation to implement its Primary Years Program and Middle Years Program. These programs promote the development of positive attributes, lifelong learning skills and an awareness and appreciation of the world.
Perhaps most importantly, Scopus offers a happy, inclusive environment where students thrive because they enjoy their learning. As an educator and as a parent, I know we can ask for nothing better.
