Gesher: Bridging the gap from Kinder to Primary School
Our Gesher Bursaries aim to support families by bridging the gap between the Child Care Subsidy received in Kinder, and school tuition fees for entry into Prep and beyond. Gesher will help a broader range of families moving forward, which benefits both the families involved and the entire Scopus community.
What is Gesher?
Gesher is the Hebrew word for "bridge." This program was created to help families navigate the financial transition from Kindergarten to Prep and beyond, supporting an immersive Jewish education at Mount Scopus. The aim of Gesher is to keep the tuition fees for primary school for eligible families in line with your out of pocket costs for Kinder.
Am I eligible?
Every family who feels they cannot afford full fees is encouraged to come and speak with us about what it might take to keep the payable fees for your child(ren) affordable. If you are eligible for CCS whilst your child attends Kinder, you are likely to be eligible for Gesher.
What is involved in the application process?
We understand that simplicity and privacy are paramount for our parents, hence the process to apply for Gesher has been intentionally crafted with this in mind. The process begins with a simple and short expression of interest form, followed by a confidential phone conversation to understand your family's unique circumstances. A meeting and submission of some documentation may be required for some families.
Does it apply for Prep only?
While Gesher is designed to help with the initial "bridge" into Primary School, we are committed to working with families throughout their journey at the College.
Can I apply for Gesher if I already have a school aged child or if I have a younger child coming through?
Yes. We understand that some families may need assistance once their second or subsequent child starts school. Other families may have concerns about affordability when a younger child progresses from Kinder to Prep. Please contact us to discuss your circumstances as either Gesher or other support might be the most appropriate pathway for your family.
If you have been assessed to receive the CCS for kinder and hadn't previously felt eligible for assistance then we encourag you to get in touch for a confidential chat about how we might be able to help you, call 9834 0093, email lschonker@scopus.vic.edu.au or click here to fill in an enquiry form and we’ll contact you.
